March 9, 1957 Central Aleutian Is. Tsunami - Point Lobos Narrative

Passage from Lander, et al. (1993):

"...The tide rose about two feet above normal at Monterey. A man and woman were swept off rocks at Point Lobos where they had been fishing Saturday afternoon. The man swam more than 100 yards in choppy, swirling water before reaching a cliff where he was rescued. He had been in the "stormy water" for half an hour. His wife was also rescued after clinging to rocks. The newspaper account does not associate this rescue with the tsunami, but the time and water descriptions make it likely that it is related (Monterey Peninsula Herald, March 11, 1957, p. 1 and 2)."
