Tsunami Response Exercises March 24, 2010
Tsunami Response Exercises March 24, 2010

NOAA and the National Tsunami Hazards Mitigation Program are providing the framework for tsunami response exercises on March 24, 2010. The exercises simulate Tsunami Warning Center response for major earthquakes and tsunamis in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. The Pacific exercise, entitled PACIFEX 10, simulates a magnitude 9.0 earthquake and tsunami generated south of the Alaska Peninsula Please click here to view PACIFEX10HandbookV3.0.pdf.

The Atlantic exercise, entitled LANTEX 10, simulates a magnitude 7.5 earthquake off the New England coast with an induced continental slope slump that generates a major tsunami Please click here to view LANTEX10HandbookV3.0.pdf.

All emergency management agencies are invited to use this opportunity to exercise response plans.

Also on March 24, 2010, the state of Alaska will be conducting a live tsunami warning code Emergency Alert System team which will be seen and heard on TV and radio throughout Alaska at 9:45am AKDT. The state of California will be conducting a similar test for the counties of Del Norte, Humboldt, and Mendocino at 10:15am PDT.
